Experience the works of 16 local artists created during two days of plein air (from the French term for “open air”) painting in the enchanting gardens of the historic Thomas Center and Matheson Museum. Plein air painting is one of the most difficult styles of painting. It challenges artists to capture what they see in front of them, as well the light, the atmosphere and the feeling of the fleeting moment in which they work.

Cruisin’ the Fossil Freeway with artist Ray Troll and Paleontologist Kirk Johnson Friday, May 18 10:00am to 5:00pm
at Florida Museum of Natural History, Gainesville, FL
The dinosaurs are here! Presented by the Toomey Foundation for the Natural Sciences. This exhibit combines some of the Florida Museum’s paleontology specimens and the fossil-inspired artwork of celebrated artist Ray Troll to explore questions about evolution, extinction and early life on Earth. Troll’s whimsical illustrations of imagined scenes from prehistoric times help bring to life real fossils.

College For Kids Registration! Friday, May 18 8:00am to 4:30pm
at Santa Fe Community College: Gymnasium.
Registration begins 4/16! The College For Kids (CFK) program is organized by Community Education and is designed as an academic program, offering students challenging, fun, hands-on learning experiences beyond the ordinary school environment. A wide range of classes in topics ranging from art to math to science to computer skills is available to choose from in block sessions.

Summit E.T. Series Saturday, May 19 4:00pm at Gainesville Raceway.
The NHRA Summit Racing Series features a bracket racing format that allows drivers in many types of vehicles, including dragsters, roadsters, sedans, and coupes, to compete on an equal basis against each other. In addition to three categories of competition for cars, a motorcycle category is featured.
