Hoggetowne Medieval Faire Friday, Feb 1 9:30am to 3:00pm Alachua County Fairgrounds
Enter a world of battling knights, dancing gypsies and mystifying magicians during the 27th Annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire, held Jan. 26-27 and Feb. 1-3 at the Alachua County Fairgrounds. Cheer on royal knights as they joust on the tournament field, or wander through the marketplace, where hundreds of artisans sell their medieval wares. Eight stages of entertainment featuring Celtic musicians, hilarious comedians and unbelievable magicians will bring medieval merriment to the entire family.


California Guitar Trio And Montreal Guitar Trio

Friday, Feb 1 7:30pm  University Auditorium Two world-renowned guitar trios combine for this unique experience featuring virtuosi from four countries – Japan, Canada, Belgium and the U.S. Inspired by their recent Canadian tour, the California Guitar Trio and Montreal Guitar Trio perform intricate original compositions as well as new arrangements of progressive rock, jazz, world and classical music. Between them, the trios have released 16 CDs and explored nearly every style of guitar playing imaginable.

A number of works in a variety of media are presented by the people who are inspired to share the museum’s collections through guided tours. These artworks reflect the variety of ways in which the Harn Museum docents’ interaction with the creative environment of the museum has sparked their own creative expression.

2013 Jubilus Festival Concert II: A Celebration of Francis Poulenc

Friday, Feb 1 7:30pm The Thomas Center Honoring the 50th Anniversary of Poulenc’s Death. Featuring Gainesville Chamber Orchestra Principal flutist Christine Alicot, the Alachua Consort’s oboist John Netardus, clarinetist Sarah Bushey,and Jubilus Artistic Co-Directors Nansi Carroll & Stephen Coxe. The program will include Poulenc’s Flute, Oboe, & Clarinet Sonatas, as well as his Banalities and Feuillets d’album.

Saturday, Feb 2 10:00am to 12:30pm Alachua County Extension Office Learn how to grow your own mushrooms. This workshop will teach you how to grow s~~take and oyster mushrooms. Shiitake mushrooms are grown on oak logs, while oyster mushroom can be grown on straw. Oyster Mushroom Production Kits are available for purchase at $5 per kit. Orders are limited to the first 50 pre-orders. The kit includes mushroom spawn, a grow bag, straw, lime, and other resource materials. Pre-register by February 1,by calling 352-337-6209, no cost.
