Featuring some of the best local and regional musicians, The “Free Fridays” concerts  play each Friday from 8 to 10 p.m. through November 8 for a total of 32 weekly concerts. Since the Plaza’s dedication in 1976, all ages have brought their blankets and lawn chairs into our beautiful downtown amphitheater and joined in the fun under the stars. Best Friday event!!

Surfing Florida: A photographic history and Surf Science: Waves and Wildlife

Surf’s up! The Florida Museum celebrates the state’s famous coastal waters with the exhibit Surfing Florida. Developed by Florida Atlantic University, the exhibit features photographs and interpretive graphics on the state’s surfing history. There’s much more to surfing than surfers! Explore the science of waves and animals of the surf and beach. Surf Science mixes Florida Museum and UF research with specimens and interactive experiences. This is awesome ya gotta go!!!

Healthy Hearts 5k  Saturday, Sep 28 4:00pm

This is a special event in conjunction with the Alachua County Heart Walk. The Heart Walk is the  American Heart Association ’s premiere fundraising event. The race starts 45 minutes before the Heart Walk on the same course. If you will take over 45 minutes to complete the 5K, please consider doing the  just the Heart Walk (which you can also run, untimed), please visit  AlachuaHeartWalk.org   for more details.   Quality Plumbing is the Healthy Heroes Sponsor of the 5k Event.

SantaFEST Saturday, Sep 28 1:00pm    english bulldogs dressed up as santa and rudolph 

Santa FEST will feature events throughout the day, across campus. Many are free and open to the public in the outdoor amphitheater behind the Fine Arts Hall. Events include an evening concert by “The Voice” contestant Naia Kete, a battle of the bands, appearances by local authors and activities at SF’s Teaching Zoo and Kika Silva Pla Planetarium. Refreshments will be available from local food trucks.

Walking tour of historic downtown Gainesville Sunday, Sep 29 1:00pm to 4:00pm City Hall – City of Gainesville

This tour will focus on the historic buildings in what is now the Downtown Entertainment district. You will learn about why Gainesville was located here, see the variety of architecture in downtown and learn about the significant changes over the last 160 years.
